AND WHO IS JACK’S MOM? An Autism Mom Profile

Me and my buddy Jack

Who am I? Well, I am a mom to 5 kids. Enough said. One of those kids is Jack, who happens to have autism. My husband is an engineer and entertains us with his stories of building and flying drones at work.

I studied and worked as a graphic designer. I am happy to be able to do freelance work from home if and when it pops up. But mostly there’s not a lot of time for that and it’s fine with me.

We are originally from Utah, but lived in Southern California for 9 years. That was where Jack was borndiagnosed and started therapies. We have since moved back to Utah, near Salt Lake City, where we are trying to remember how to survive the winter.

I enjoyed writing as a child and I’ve always had a desire to sit down and give it a try as an adult. Thanks to a spark of inspiration and deciding to act on it, with this blog I finally am. Autism is a natural subject for me to write about because I am thinking about it all the time. I watch my son Jack and a full range of emotions goes through me: frustration, amazement, pride, frustration, love… and I want to share my thoughts on being an autism mom with others.

Autism is a very tricky subject. It looks different to everyone. I only have my sample size of one that I’m a semi-expert on, so that’s the perspective I use. My goal is to educate others on autism, because it’s very likely that each one of us has someone in our sphere that is affected by it. I want each of us to be mindful and patient of others’ differences, challenges, and strengths.

Get ready to learn, enjoy, and join in on our journey on the rocky and unpredictable path called autism. Go Jack Go!
